Get ready to be blown away by the bold sounds and high energy of Ghanaian afropop star Wiyaala! Ever since I first heard her fusion of traditional African rhythms with contemporary pop, I've been hooked on her fearless artistic vision.
Born Noella Wiyaala in Ghana's Upper West region, this multi-talented performer grew up immersed in local music traditions. After relocating to Accra, she broke out in 2013 by placing second on Ghana's Stars of the Future talent show.
This national spotlight kicked off Wiyaala's rapid career ascent. Her debut single "Rock My Body" instantly became a pan-African smash hit in 2013 winning her the "Best Discovery" and "Best Reggae/Dancehall" awards at the 4syte Music Video Awards. She swiftly followed up with her own headlining tour .
Over the next few years, Wiyaala continued releasing anthemic pop hits like "Village Sex", "Tinambayai", "Yaga Yaga" among others while sharing stages with stars from Ghana, Nigeria and beyond.
Her high-energy live performances, featuring colorful traditional costumes and face paint, electrify crowds wherever she goes.
By 2020, Wiyaala had performed at major international events including the Europe Music Festival, and Australia's Oz-Africa Festival. She also co-organized her own music and arts festival in northern Ghana to empower other young female artists and doesn't hesitate to share her message of female empowerment at major events worldwide.
Now in her mid-30s, The multiple award winning musician is solidly established as one of Africa's most vibrant contemporary stars. But it's her refusal to be pigeonholed and commitment to her artistic roots that really make this rising star shine bright. I can't wait to see what she brings next!
