Black Sherif Scores Legal Win As Court Dismisses Cruise Company's Lawsuit

Rising Ghanaian artist Black Sherif has scored a legal victory after a lawsuit brought against him by a cruise company was dismissed by the High Court in Ghana.

The case stemmed from a performance contract between Black Sherif and Cruise People Ltd. to play a show on a cruise ship in Greece on August 19, 2023. However, before the scheduled date, Cruise People terminated the contract unilaterally over alleged publicity breaches.

The company then demanded Black Sherif refund the $20,000 deposit paid for the show. But Black Sherif's team resisted, arguing the promoter cancelled the gig so Sherif was owed compensation instead.

This led Cruise People Ltd. to sue Black Sherif for the deposit, interest, lost profits, damages, and legal fees. In response, Black Sherif's lawyers filed to dismiss the case, citing the contract stated disputes must be handled exclusively in the UK.

On November 16, the High Court agreed with Black Sherif's position. The judge ruled the dispute was not closely connected to Ghana and should be resolved in the UK per the contract terms. Consequently, the court struck out the cruise company's lawsuit altogether.

This dismissal hands Black Sherif an important legal victory early in his blossoming career. The young artist behind hits like "First Sermon" has rapidly become one of Ghana's most exciting talents. With the case now thrown out, his team has indicated they will countersue for breach of contract if new litigation is filed in the proper UK jurisdiction.

For now, Black Sherif can put the lawsuit behind him and continue focusing on his music without legal distraction. His talent has already captured the attention of artists like Burna Boy. This court ruling reaffirms Black Sherif's position and clears the way for the rising star to reach even greater heights.
