Messi Makes History with Unprecedented 8th Ballon d’Or After World Cup Glory

Lionel Messi has once again etched his name in football lore, winning a record-shattering 8th Ballon d’Or award following a magical 2022. His World Cup triumph with Argentina capped off a year that further cemented his GOAT status.

The 36-year-old legend took home his latest Ballon d’Or in Paris on Monday after leading Argentina to long-awaited World Cup glory in Qatar. As captain, Messi scored 7 goals including two in the dramatic final against France.

After years of near-misses, Messi finally lifting the World Cup trophy completed his storybook career. This unprecedented achievement bolstered his Ballon d’Or case to win the award yet again.

Remarkably, this marks Messi's 8th Ballon d’Or victory - 3 more than any other player in history. The iconic No. 10 seems to shatter records every year.

Messi faced stiff competition from young guns like Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe. But his World Cup heroics and continual brilliance for PSG solidified Messi as the standout.

At 36, Messi shows no signs of slowing down. If anything, winning that elusive World Cup has elevated Messi to an even higher echelon reserved only for legends like Maradona.

With his 8th Ballon d’Or now in the books, Messi has substantially widened his lead over rival Cristiano Ronaldo's 5 wins. Once again, the Argentine maestro stands alone in football annals.

After the news broke, Brazilian legend Ronaldinho congratulated Messi on social media, writing: "Congratulations Leo Messi once again the best in the world!!! Very happy for you my brother.. A big hug!"
