Popular Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene has revealed that he is yet to receive any royalties from the hit song "No Dulling" he co-wrote several years ago for music duo Keche.
In a recent interview, the artist known as the "Rockstar" explained his hesitation in confronting his veteran colleagues about the missing payments. Though he contributed to their breakout track, Eugene feels Keche's longer tenure in the industry warrants his patience and respect.
"I still don’t have royalties from it. I’ve spoken about it and people question how much money could have really been made that requires giving me a cut," Eugene said. "But you know you are benefiting from it. If I approach you as respected seniors saying I haven’t gotten anything yet, it could look bad."
Eugene decided against asserting his frustration directly to avoid potential backlash as a younger performer. But he appeared dismayed that Keche had not willingly acknowledged his songwriting contribution with appropriate compensation.
This is not Eugene's first time tackling unavailable royalties, having called out fellow singer Mr Drew earlier this year for allegedly releasing a co-written song without proper permissions. However, the rising hitmaker seems inclined to handle more veteran artists like Keche delicately.
As Kuami Eugene's career continues rising meteorically, fans wait to see if Keche will eventually proactively address the lingering royalty situation related to "No Dulling" and properly credit the young composer. But Eugene appears focused on maintaining industry diplomacy, rather than escalating tensions over missed payments.
