Yaw Tog Gets Candid About Fame, Music Biz Pressures

Buzzing Ghanaian drill rapper Yaw Tog recently sat down with Kwadwo Sheldon for an eye-opening chat about navigating the highs and lows of the music industry. At just 20 years old, the "Sore" hitmaker spoke frankly about dealing with fickle online crowds, label woes and his own mental health struggles.

When asked what motivates him to keep dropping new tracks, Yaw Tog bluntly responded: money. But he admits financial success has been slow coming so far even with songs like "Sore" blowing up virally.

Yaw Tog brushes off the swarms of Twitter users constantly judging his releases, saying the online noise used to get to him more when he was younger. Now when detractors spread rumors about his career cooling off, he's learned to ignore the unconstructive commentary.

"Forget everybody, I just chill," as he pragmatically put it. The rising star explained artists need thick skin, asserting that everyone in the game is just trying to find their way.

However, Yaw Tog feels fans sometimes pile unfair pressure on artists to keep commercially achieving without appreciating the work involved. He pointed out systemic constraints, like limited label investment in the Ghanaian industry, make explosive global success an unrealistic standard for most.

When asked about his record deal status, Yaw Tog revealed wisdom beyond his years by advocating up-and-coming artists secure legal representation early so they don't get exploited. He alluded to recent tensions with former collective mate Jahbahd over contract disputes. But Yaw Tog takes all the controversies surrounding him in stride.

As for what's next, Yaw Tog teased his forthcoming album "Young and Matured" which shows off his versatility across drill, highlife and afrobeats. Sarkodie, Medikal and Fameye are among the features.

Balancing youthful confidence with plenty of industry know-how, Yaw Tog's reflections underscore the multilayered undertones of the viral fame game. His level-headed ability to tune out unconstructive noise certainly sets an example for rising talents on maintaining peace of mind.
